EUBIROD Diabetes Report

European BIRO Diabetes Indicators — Year 2010 · N=199,902

Methodological use only. This test report is not representative of diabetes epidemiology or quality of care in participating centres.

This page presents a sample BIRO report for educational use as part of the dissemination activity of the BIRO Academy.

Between 2008 and 2012, the project EUropean Best Information through Regional Outcomes in Diabetes (EUBIROD) realised a system capable of collecting data and delivering reports on diabetes in Europe rapidly, at minimal cost, and with high levels of privacy and data protection.

Individual data never leave the local database. In EUBIROD, different sources use the BIRO software consistently to create and exchange aggregate data in a standardised format. The open-source software is continuously developed with direct contributions from associated partners. The BIRO system supports interoperability without interfering with local organisation. Each EUBIROD Diabetes Report, whether produced by one or more centres, is entirely comparable across the collaboration. This defining property allows reproducibility along the reporting chain from provider to regional, national and international level.

The European report is built annually by collecting aggregate tables from all partners. The analytical work is distributed across partners, and the whole process can be completed within a few hours.

The report below is the output of the EUBIROD test run, realised in 2012 using data for reference year 2010. Nineteen centres in different countries directly used BIRO to analyse their own results and contribute to the overall test results for 2010.
